I used both in a recent project and there was little difference. Dodo is slightly thinner, but much cheaper.

you will find that getting the window noise is very hard
because the is made made buy the gutter

in my view yes the only way to cut the underbonet is a blanket on the bonnet
we managed to do it to a Austin A35 we used as a rally car you can get fome
that is for sound studios stuck some of that on the bonnet and held it up with chicken wire it was amazing the difference it made

If insulating inside the car don't just stick down Dynamat over the whole floor etc like you see so many folk doing. You will get better results if you add a isolating section in between. Density is what blocks sounds; kg/m3.

- Stick sound deadening to large panels, cover approximately 25% of the area. Mass loaded vinyl is a good choice or Tecsound 50 or Tecsound 50 ALU. https://www.customaudiodirect.co.uk/...-soundproofing

- then a layer of closed cell foam (6mm would do) or something like this which is excellent stuff: https://www.carinsulation.co.uk/prod...ing-insulation

- then a full layer of mass loaded vinyl or tecsound 50 / ALU.

Also make sure you block any holes in the bulkhead as they let in a lot of noise.

Fully insulate wheel arches.

If an Amazon has door mirrors fitted adjacent to the quarterlights they are a major source of wind noise. Volvo never fitted them there. Opening and reversing the quarterlights is impossible unless you use the mirrors with the arm at the front of the mount and even then it isn't ideal. Basically, wing mirrors are correct for the Amazon. Not perfect, but neither are the door mirrors, especially the passenger door one. With a modern car we take door mirrors for granted and do get used to using them. Major problem with the Amazon is the tiny inside mirror which is marginal at best. Finding and using an old school clip on panoramic mirror solves all of the problems. In my Estate I can see the whole of the hatch window and half way down the rear side windows which is better than most modern cars. I wouldn't be without mine. I have wing mirrors of the GT type. I've used clip ons in saloons and had similar results.

Hi Grumpydad,

Bizarrely technical is my background, a previous line of work saw me do several courses on room acoustics both here and overseas, not cars but homes, but all of the same principles apply.

I say bizarrely because my last job was as a technical officer and yet, the one thing which shocks people is my total lack of understanding of anything whatsoever to do with computers.

Derek, I visited a friend today who is very Computer savvy and has an amazing connection, unlike myself, no phone line and relying on an EE hub box which uses mobile phone signal which is only ever 1-2 bars here (rarely 2). I duly took a copy of driver with me for your details, started sending you photos and.....they bounced.

I had taken an older copy of driver (2016) and having checked the newest copy I have (December 2018) and can see you have a newer e-mail address so I will try and send some in a few mins, from my phone to your e-mail, not sure if it will work as signal and connection speed is practically still in the Jurassic period here.

Derek, my Green Amazon is a 1970 122s (133) and was ordered new with 123GT mirrors, Bosch fog and spot lamp and carpets, only the mirrors remained when I acquired the car 11 years ago, but I decided against re-fitting them, drilling my wings having bought two new wings was part of my reason against it but in truth the main reason was, they were utterly useless,
when compared with the door mirrors we are used to on modern cars.

As you will know Volvo actually moved the mirrors during the 123GT life-cycle, from a slightly more forward position to a tad further back and closer in line with the apex of the wheelarch, no doubt trying to improve things, but they were flogging a dead horse in all honesty.

The more I drive my car the more pleased I am with the outcome of 'muting' the cars overall noise level.

Hi Derek,

Photos are, I hope, travelling through the ether to you, my last post took four attempts to upload, that's how utterly hopeless it is here in my Cottage, although Hobbit hole may be more accurate.

Sent around 4 to you, just overall images of the car as folk here may find them interesting and worth a look? No images of the sound deadening et al as yet until I know my photos don't clog your connection up.

Derek, this may not be the right thread for something I wanted to ask you more about, namely you mentioned recently, in another thread, you had an early B16 Amazon in the 60's (if I understood and read it correctly?) would love to hear more about that, if I have it correct, that would have been a very expensive car and a rare sight back in the day.

My 1961 B16 122S was bought in 1966 for £425, which was about 1/3 of it's original price. Price was similar to a Rover 2000. Red with a white roof, later changed to make it all red, with grey interior. Iron particles in the chimney smoke at the foundry that I worked at, used to settle on the roof and bed themselves into the paint as they were a bit hot. The particles then rusted! Changing to a red roof cured that and luckily they improved the particle emission problem with the chimney.

Fascinating, loved that piece from your Volvo history, am I to assume this was your first Volvo and the start of the Volvo addiction?

I will get back on topic with regards to this thread shortly and send you some photos relating to sound deadening, namely photos of my sound deadening and carpet fitting to my car.

The Volvo was my second car after a Triumph Herald Coupe, an early one with the 998cc twin carb engine. Not many of those left. A nice number plate too, TAP 68, worth a bit of plumber's money now.
