XC60 Rear Window Rubber Freezing Door Shut
OK question for all of you.
On my 2012MY in this cold weather the rubber seal on the top of the rear door keeps freezing to the bodywork preventing the opening of the door when the cars frozen-up. Any ideas on how to prevent this ? It's a PITA when you leave for work in the morning as my work bag normally sits on the rear seat. It's also a major pain when the ice scraper is in the rear offside footwell.

Wipe the seal with a silicone pen like this or similar. It's a common problem easily sorted. It never hurts to keep the seals clean and lubed anyway.

Or even some Vaseline smeared over the seal stops the water getting in and prevents this.

My P3 V70 is the same however I don't remember my P2 V70 ever having this problem. Given they are a Swedish company you would have thought they would haven been able to get this right.

All it takes is some preventative measures as has already been mentioned in previous posts a couple of times during the autumn and winter months and there shouldn’t be any problems. I have used Autoglym Vinyl & Rubber Spray on all my door & bonnet rubbers for a number of years and have never had a problem.

Too darn cold to sort it last night but on the list for the weekend.
Thanks everyone, I can remember it happening lots with my Subaru but don't recall having the issue with the S60.

The point I was making was my previous V70 (P2 generation) did not have this problem and I had that for 9 years and it was 16 years old when I sold it. Never do I remember the doors being frozen shut.
The comment about Sweden was really how did it go from not being a problem on the P2 to being a problem on the P3 cars? It's not as if Sweden does not have cold weather to test this. One final point which is, the underlying cause is water is getting past the first outer seal on the P3 car, you can see this when you open the door, this then freezes the door shut. On the P2 car water never got past the first outer seal even at 16 years old and 150K. |

We had some Swedish neighbours at one time and I was introduced to the discipline of winterising the car and how important it was to do it in Sweden.
