Thanks chaps - I think sometimes mirth doesn't translate too well over the interweb (!)

I was kind of wondering about the tyre situation (but has now been answered)

I was also kind of wondering why someone would go to all the trouble of paying someone Dutch labour rates and get his 4 inch wheels widened to a size that is already available off the shelf. I figured it was a boy racer cool thing...

I finally managed to measure the PCD of the bolt holes - I made it 11.5 cm so I guess that will be the Amazon 5 x 114,3 set up.

Were all of the Amazons with this set up?

In other words - when did the ¨newer stuff¨ happen?

All Amazons had the same PCD (right up to the end of production). However, the Volvo 140 range was the same as the 240s and subsequent RWD models, which (from experience) is very confusing when one tries to fit an Amazon wheel to ones '68 Volvo 144, as the wheel appearance is identical!
I bet it was even more difficult at the production plants - wheels of identical appearance yet differing PCDs by just a few mm, yet both cars being built simultaneously. Maybe not at the same plant though.

Great stuff - thanks for that.

The strange thing is is that it looks like the wheels I have are much older than Amazons - if I remember correctly one of them had a date code of 1951 on it.

(I better check that)

Anyway it looks like Volvo were used to different wheel sizes as I understand (from above) the PV PCD was also different - so even back in the 1950´s they must have been messing the new boy about with the put that wheel on that car joke (!)

Nono Army, the PV did have all the PCD 5x 114.3mm from the factory.
Your car is not really original anymore, I asked for that reason.
I've seen even mixed cars (PV and Amazon) with 5x108 in the front and 5x114,3 in the rear. And now think about the face of the tyreshop guy, a real pleasure.

regards, Kay

OK that´s cleared it up then.

I probably have the original PV drums on the back with Amazon parts on the front. Tomorrow I might get to the stage where I can get all the wheels off so I can have a proper look and make some pictures of what I´ve got.

I did an Amazon last year and used wheels from an older model of police cars here in the US. The hubcaps were not mounted in the picture, but you can make 140 hubcaps work on these wheels with minimal effort (you run a raised center cap to have an anchor point for the hubcap to attach to).

I hope the picture helps.

My current 122S has BMW wheels on adapters. It's a better fitment, the car is lowered and handles great with the wheels and larger tires but it's w work out to parallel park. My father in law recently drove it and didn't enjoy it. I'm used to it and don't mind it but it's not for everyone.
