General V60 D4 Diesel Emissions issues, Don't Buy!

Bought a new V60 DE from Greers of Antrim 20 months ago. Emissions warning light on every 2\3 months from new. Volvo cannot fix the problem. Sent an engineer in from Sweden with fix but has happened again. Was on local BBC Radio Ulster programme this morning about it. Want either a full refund or replacement car but dealership only offering trade in, over £6K for new car. Feel as if I have been very unfairly treated by Volvo. As a customer I bought a new car which has never worked properly (Volvo are not disputing this) and therefore was not of satisfactory quality.

Left in the position where I cannot keep the car, as the issue is still there and I don't know what damage the engine has received, and will have to go to arbitration to get any sort of a deal for the value of my car! Completely dissatisfied customer!

May i ask , do you drive your diesel car gently , for short journeys & around town ?

The reason I ask , is that this style of driving fails to generate enough heat or gas flow through the exhaust to initiate a regeneration cycle . The result is a blocked filter & a warning light on the dash . Sometimes a long drive at speed is required to start the process . Think of it as blowing your nose !

It would be reasonable to expect DPF regenerations to have a high rate of success in the early years of a diesel cars life. The emissions light coming on every 2-3 months since new is somewhat suspect. Of course vehicle mileage and driving style will play a large part in how successful the dpf regenerations are.

Greers like any Volvo dealership are the face of the company, but they are also the middleman. I'd imagine it would be up to Greers to hold Volvo Cars uk to account if they were being supplied with faulty vehicles. Volvo cars as a corporation have proven time and time again that their aftersales service can be lacklustre when things like this happen. Some of the less premium manufacturers have better customer service. I would personally seek legal advice.

If this is the EGR problem there was a final fix launched a couple of months ago ... we cant comment here any further unless we know the mechanical details .

I heard On Your Behalf (a popular local consumer programme) yesterday morning. The problem is the EGR valve, not the DPF. I believe this is a common problem in newer Volvos.
