I've just ordered a new D4 FWD. Have been told late Feb or March for delivery as well. Really looking forward to seeing what the new D4 engine is like, the specs look great for the performance and economy.

Spaceman (aka David Bowie),

What colour and options did you opt for?

Drive the Deal offered us a package that my local dealer couldn't get near to matching.

So it's a factory build and due for delivery in March 2014. The reason we went for the FWD was partly to secure the first of the 'new generation' 2.0 Volvo engines - the power and efficiency is a turning point for Volvo. The AWD versions won't get the new engines until much later. And our XC90 is AWD but we have found that, as long as we have winter tyres mounted, FWD is almost (almost) as good as AWD in the snow & ice.

The dealer let me try a 163bhp car which was quite good. And they let me try the D5 AWD 215bhp car too. On balance, we think we've made a good choice but we'll have to see when we get it delivered.

I agree with the feedback about the XC90. A lovely car and very roomy but just no fun on the winding Scottish roads where we live. It's a super motorway cruiser or trunk road machine.

Looking forward to joining the XC60 forum very soon

David

Hello David,

Have ordered the same as you but with Geartronic. Fancied waiting for the all new engine as it makes the purchase a little more worthwhile, and, if I'm going to the expense, I might as well get the latest spec as I am happy with FWD. I thought about the 20" alloys as well but the price was a little too steep although the car does look more poised with them.

Had to google SWMBO as I didn't know what it meant. I have had no such issues as mine isn't the slightest bit interested!

Think delivery is around Feb for me although I did order in early Nov. Guess it'll come when it comes and have to be patient.

I am waiting till march too i have had my order confirmed for 1st march.

I have gone for the geartronic also as i do a lot of city driving and can't wait.

Anyone who get one before march must put a review on here as i believe it is a big shift for volvo and the platform for their future models

Think lots of people are looking to see if a review comes in for the new FWD VEA soon.

Haven't seen a single review anywhere for the new engine in the XC60 but there are reviews around for the the V60. Evidently goes like a rat up a drainpipe but guess it will a little more sedate in a heavier car (thankfully).

Not had a confirmation date for mine despite ordering in first few days of Nov!!!

Thanks for that.

Didn't see that review. Bit disappointed that he didn't like the geartronic as I had hoped it would be very good. This was one of the reasons why I have chosen to order the 8 speed over the manual.

If the gearbox needs enhancements to the telemetry (if proved to be a bit clunky), is this done via a software update or is it more complicated than that?

Volvo have upgraded gearbox software before, major time was after MY10.5 model was released and they later upgraded it to include the sports function, but this could not be applied to MY10 models or earlier The reason given was that the gearbox did not contain the necessary 'telemetry' or functionality to feedback into the control systems.

In short, it may be possible - or it may not

Really useful bit of info - thanks.

I did wince a little when I posed the question of a software upgrade on the gearbox as I thought I might be shot down for asking a dumb question!

In this day and age (of technology) we think that a patch, hotfix or software upgrade will solve just about anything that doesn't work so well. Only I guess some enhancements do need mechanical improvements as there is only so far a remap can go.

That's assuming of course that the gearbox isn't as good as it could be (according to the XC60 181 FWD review on what car)

How many time have we hard the statement 'unfortunately, we cannot upgrade yours due to compatibility issues'.
