2015 XC60 D4 vs D5
Hi all,
I might be missing something but what are the merits of the D4 over the D5 engine currently available on the MY2015 XC60. Looking at the UK Volvo website it seems that all of the following are identical when comparing the AWD/Geartronic versions of the D4 & D5:
FYI I currently have a 2010 XC90 so know the D5 well so are ebbing towards the D5 anyway. Any thoughts comments appreciated. |

Same questions I asked myself last year when changing the previous XC60, in the end the D5 made sense to me and I stuck with it - very happy that I did.

Hi, I bought D4 AWD 2.4 l 181 hp and made Polestar tune to a D5 level, 215 hp.
I saved 2500 euro! You can use this money getting extra options. I asked technical manager , he assured me there is no any diffrence between model except software. Ok, you can make a Polestar tune to a D5 also, but I could not see any major improvemet on figures.

He wouldn't elaborate other than to say that the part numbers are difference for many components and they do not consider the engines to be the same. I don't deny it is cheaper to buy but would i want the same fuel economy for less power? Where it may make a difference is on the car insurance and BIK, personally having looked at the options last year I am happy with the full fat version.
