Just open up the air filter housing and take out the air filter. What you see now is the air intake, there you spray it in.

Oh, i see what you mean, found sommat like this not sure if it will get the engine as hot as it needs to be to fire the fuel up though
I wouldn't go down that route. Something is wrong, so it needs fixing. If you want a seperate heater, go for it, but not to mask another sympthom.

Ah bugger, not that straight forward then, why cant things just be simple lol, my filter box lid has some sort of ECU on to, two decent, awkward cables go to it and makes things difficult when needing to start it, thanks

Ah wait, that's not correct, sorry!

You need to spray it into the lid, not the bottom. The "ECU" part is the MAF (Mass-Airflow-Sensor) that measures your air intake. That's where the spray has to pass on it's way to the engine.

Sorry, my bad!

EDIT: If your air filter housing lid looks like in this video, you need to spray into the lid. Sorry again!

Mine is as shown below

I have just tried a start with vida but it took too long to initialise the test and it got too warm.

I just the plugs and swapped them over, so thing very interesting, plug #1 was stone cold, the rest were warm, thoughts?

Suffered sine about summer 2010, blooming Carp fishing, trying to take a photo on your own before the timer runs out......

Yes, that will be the safest place to spray it. The thermo-flap is designed to pick up hot air from the exhaust to improve cold driveability but there is a cold air bleed into it so should get enough past the flap for test purposes.

I did my back in summer 1996, dislocated L3, 4 & 5 and now have degenerative disc disease in them.

Looking at your pic, that's the main ECU for the engine on top of the air filter box, the small round thing next to it with the small plug is your MAF.

Very strange plug #1 is cold, worth checking the connections and the supply to it whe the glow plugs are operating.

Nuisance about VIDA though!

It must be hidden somewhere else, there aren't even any terminals in there as far as i can see from your pic.

I have the same as you, but is L5/S1 and L4/5, get pain down me legs too.
1 MRI showed sciatica, subsequent ones dont show sciatica, that comes and goes depending on whether not its playing up more than normal, like now, had so many arguments with specialists, some are trying to say its muscle, if it was, it wouldnt feel like this, nor would the pain move and nor would it have shown sciatica (disc pressing on nerve but im sure ya know that) on the earlier MRI

Anyway, i worked on the car at 8am, put the bosch plugs back in as i know they worked previously, i didnt get it warm enough to warm the vents though. Ive just been out to try it just now and it fired up straight away. it normally does, its when its left overnight when things play up, makes me think that there could be a fuel pressure dropping over time? just another thought into the woodwork lol

I will see wha its like in the morning, wont be 1st thing though, rain.....

I've been thinking it's fuel related for a while now, seeing the glow plugs didn't improve the cold starting/running. They're the usual culprit and are a service item in any case.
As you've refitted your old ones, get your multimeter on resistance and check between the connection stud and the body of the plug where it screws into the head. The resistance won't be high on any that are working, probably around 0.3-0.4 Ohms so check the resistance of your leads by touching the probes together. Often this can be 0.7 Ohms on its own so subtract that figure from whatever each glow plug reads.
If #1 wasn't heating up, expect to see open circuit (usually denoted by "1___" on the display) on it. If it is dead, you can legitamtely send it back for a replacement - photos uploaded to ebay may help and they may send you a replacement based simply on that.

Meanwhile in other news, the 'stat is an improvement and the hound enjoyed her walk!

Cheers, i will check them all when it gets light, i really hope there is no broken wires, i am not very good with most things electrical, put in a bulb, change a 13amp plug, bodge everything else......

Glad ya stat is feeling better

Ive found that the pups love just about everything as long as their human counterparts are with them

Loki is the 1st ever dog i have had, i detested everything about them (still do lol) it was my ex that talked me into getting one as long as it was my choice of breed i said yeah, we split 6 months later, like hell she was having him, a further 6 months later i rescue his dad (Brandy) from the puppy farm (Wisbech), 3 months after that i rescue his half brother (Brodie) from the same farm but he already left and been from one end of the country to the other having already been to 4 other homes, they couldnt cope with him being so severely timid and scared of everything, to be fair he was hard work, they still dont like humans so much and will bark at you until ya go away, so i have a dad (ex stud) and 2 brothers. 9 years later........ lol I cant remember if ive already told ya this so forgive me if im worse than the BBC lol
