Thanks for the explanation FunkyMelon. As said I know nothing of diesels, never owned one and never liked driving any of those I have driven,so it was more curiosity/interest and now I understand the reasoning.

Keep reading this thread , the catch all for DPF deleted engines is it will blow smoke that should be held by the DPF & IF an MOT tester can see ANY smoke from the exhaust of any colour FAIL

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/mot-insp...#section-8-2-2

Please read the extract from the manual

(d) Exhaust on a vehicle fitted with a diesel particulate filter emits visible smoke of any colour Major

Can be found in 8.2.2.2

https://mattersoftesting.blog.gov.uk...ots-integrity/

Oh D6 Stevie , just love your pointless rant comment about legalities to me , please go right ahead , remove the DPF & alter the ECU software

Not quite true, you can easily lean them out to much and melt holes in pistons seen this MANY times.

listen dafty, I REALLY do not give a single fcuk about 'legalities' 😂 It runs on red as well.... so that's another 'oh yer bad'
MOT 🤔🙄 yeah can get them without presenting the car. So.... what'e your next point?

I asked a simple question, no self righteous
'I am the MOT man' was required. If you had nothing to comment that was actually of use then it would of been best and saved my time had you moved to another thread, put this down to experience and move along.

Even if you "don't give a single fcuk about legalities" maybe, just maybe, you have a conscience about the fact that modern diesels burn fuel so efficiently now that the particulates are much smaller & are ingested into lung linings that much more readily than diesels of old, affecting new-borns, asthmatics & others with aspiration problems. Hence the introduction & enforcement of DPFs ...it's got nothing to do with the tree huggers.

Just for the avoidance of doubt, it isn't illegal to remove a dpf. It's the moment you drive it that the offence is committed, with a fine of up to £1000 on conviction.

Alright, let’s draw a line under this. You’re clearly not going to get the advice you’d like, so all that can follow is bad feeling.

cheers

James
