Default engine light and 121 and 414 codes

Hi guys, finally got round to checking the error codes on my 850 T5R.

it is showing 1-2-1 and 4-1-4 both seems to have the MAF in common. The car symptoms are dodgy tickover when cold, drinking fuel and stalling/cutting out when slowing or stopped. On wide open throttle it flies no problems.

I've taken the MAF out and looked it over and I have no residue or gunge anywhere. I measured the various resistances betweens and they vary from 1300 ohms to 12 ohms. I don't know what to expect.

I've had a look at the small rubber hoses from the air intake which go from the large 3 inch air pipe just past the MAF to something bolted to the side of the engine, and they are a bit perished but surprised if these had suddenly gone.

I've cleared the codes, but before investing in another MAF wondered if you guys have any ideas on quick checks, access seems horribly tight on these hoses.

I've read people don't worry about 414 codes.

I am in eastleigh, near Jct 12 of M3 if anyone nearby has a MAF I could try, much apreciated.

Rgds

With this code and your symptoms there would be no doubt in my mind the Maf is faulty, have you tried driving with the Maf unplugged?

Default Maf ?

Hi Jod, thanks for the reply, just drove back from the gym and it stalled worse but that apart it didnt seem a whole lot different, so I agree it looks like the MAF has to go. I'll take it out sunday and check the numbers on the side.

any good places to shop for one ?

I've got similar problems with mine
414 - Turbo boost pressure too high
232 - long term fuel mixture too lean or rich at idle
121 - MAF signal absent or faulty

Any advice on a repair is welcomed!

Usually, with a naf Maf it will run better disconnected....

Only buy Bosch would be my advice...

Remove the codes and see what comes back....

Check the elbows at the side of the inlet manifold and at the Pcv valve...

Default codes cleared

hi, we'll a hard call but I think it was worse without the MAF. So not sure now, will try and get garage to order me a part on sale or return.

I cleared the codes, and within 1/2 mile the engine light was back on with 414 and 121 again

I'm not sure which elbows to look at either! I tried to disconnect my MAF to see if it was blocked in case I need a new one.

I could disconnect from the turbo cover but couldn't free the other side which is connected to the flexi exhaust pipe. Should I use a screw driver after loosening the metal connection cable?
