Wheel removal and problems with full lock
Is there a known problem in removing the wheels on a 1998 V70?
I have just tried to take them off, and am unable to do so. Are they prone to being 'welded' on if not removed for some time? If so is there a knack of getting them off? Also noticed that when on full lock the inner tyre is rubbing on the inner wheel arch on both sides? Any reasons why? The tyres are 16 inch 205's with alloy centres. Thanks in anticipation |

RE: Wheel removal and problems with full lock
I think that there are steering stop locks which should prevent wheels from over turning but Im not sure if they are adjustable. Secondly if your ally wheels are stuck it can be one hell of a job to remove them. Just another sympton of the service it once a year, 10,000 miles brigade of designers failing to find an obvious fault. We have had this several times usually with a puncture. To get them off....jack up car and then support securely on axle stands/ heavy wood etc...in fact anything where it wont collapse if car is rocked.... with bolts removed sit on the ground and kick one side of the wheel hard....rotate 180 degrees and repeat...then 90 degrees and the same and then 180 and the same. Wheel should come undone from hub eventually. DONT belt the ally wheel itself it you can help it as they are very prone to dinking in and so scrapping the wheel. Now you have learned the lesson the hard way as we did !!!take off all wheels, remove rust and apply copper ease where centre hub meets wheel. One other small point. Some ally wheels have a steel ring which is meant to be the contact point between centre hub and wheel. If this does not come off with the wheel you will have to remove it somehow or you will not be able to swop wheels around. Cheers Nigel
