Default Jap V70 and Polestar upgrade

I put my 2009 Japanese import V70 2.5T into my dealer for a Polestar upgrade. It failed with no reason. They assumed it was because it was a Japanese spec engine.

Anyone come across this before?

As an alternative, you could try the VDash remapping service, it will show whether they already have the software version required for your car or whether they need to create it, that might give a clue as to whether you have an uncommon software version in your car or not

Volvo Technical has said that the Polestar upgrade was not made available for the Japanese market. The installed software is not compatible with the upgrade software. They did not say why.

If VDash can do an upgrade I don't know if that will compromise any warranty or cause any engine running issues.

This 2.5T auto is 200hp which I think is standard for the B5254T6 engine.

Ah I didn't think you would be worried about a warranty on a 2009 car, especially an import. You didn't get it from a Volvo dealer did you?

I am in no way affiliated with Vdash, but I heard from a couple of people that were happy with using their service, and have seen a couple of youtube videos that were also happy. The great selling point is you can do it yourself, and you can also revert the software to factory as well I believe from the Vdash interface.

The point i was making however, was I think you can actually just check if they have your cars software saved and mapped, without having to commit to a purchase

i believe the software used with vdash is from t5d5 in usa you need to register to purchase from them and use an inter face like dice or mongoose cable.

The only problem with 3rd party remapping is that if during servicing Volvo dealers choose to upgrade the car's software, the remapping gets deleted and would need to be re-written into the software.
One of the advantages of the Polestar optimisation software upgrade is that it becomes a permanent part of the car's software and is not deleted during routine software updates. Of course with a 2009 car, especially a Japanese spec vehicle, there may not be any future need to uprate the car's operating software.

Default Update on Polestar Optimisation on V70s imported from Japan

Hi, Sorry I didn't see this before, just for the record and from my personal experience;

1) Volvo Japan supplies Polestar Optimisation and to my knowledge has done since 2008. I have imported and use a 2008 V70 T6 with Polestar.
2) Volvos supplied in Japan use exactly the same engine specifications as those suppied in the EU and UK.
3) Previously imported V70s have been sucessfully Polestar Optimised by Volvo Main Dealers in the UK. I have no idea why your dealer's PS Optimisation failed. I have never heard of this happening before.
4) A D5T5 Stage 2 map installed with VDASH will deliver similar power and torque to a PS Optimisation at half the cost.
5) Any software changed with VDASH (also used to change language from Japanese to English, KMS to MLS etc...) will be overwritten if a Volvo Main Dealer performs a 'Free' software update. It can be disconcerting for the Japanese language to reappear etc!
6) Any D5T5/VDASH software or settings that a Volvo Main Dealer may overwrite can be reinstalled/reconfigured at no additional cost from D5T5.
7) VDASH has a facility to 'roll back' any changes before a visit to a Volvo Main Dealer and reinstall them after you get back.
8) The VDASH program can be downloaded/used on a Windows 10/11 laptop but will need to be used in conjunction with a DiCE OBD box/lead.

I hope this helps

Thanks. The dealer just said it was a software mismatch. I have VDASH and a cable from Matt and just need to find time to do the upgrade as I will need to take my 850 T5 out of my garage as the V70 needs to be connected overnight.

It is going into the dealer in early April for discs and pads so I will ask them not to connect it to VIDA.
