Don't forget to prime the filter with diesel or you'll be bleeding it forever!

You do not have to bleed the system, it is self bleeding return system,

Tim was referring to priming aka bleeding the filter.
Just swap the filter, put ignition on for 20 seconds, ingition off and repeat.
In 2-3 times the intank pump will fill the filter and fuel will make it to the HP pump.

For what it's worth...

I studied to the death about the V70 and what to buy etc etc, the more I read the more refined my search became to the point where I eventually settled on a model/year/mileage/spec that suited me...and the started searching.

I was lucky in the end and purely by chance after months of searching that a local garage to me had one come in as a part exchange and they put it on their forecourt and I just happened to spot it on the very morning they put it out.

I purchased a v70 d5, SE auto, euro3, 110k on the clock, fsh, high spec and included a factory towbar (which is what I wanted it for)

It's now almost a year on....

I have covered 15k with it, I have spent on it 2 tyres (punctured by driving over a bed of nails in the south of england) ...

I have just taken it for it's MOT, it passed with an advisory on the windscreen....

The vehicle doesn't use oil, the air-con is as cold as it was the day I bought it, it has towed my caravan (albeit just 500miles in total) there are no knocks, the gearbox is seamless, everything is as it should.

However, I now plan to spend on it
Gearbox and engine oil change
2 rear springs (one is looking a bit weathered)
2 tyres

(I'm in the east mids, if anyone has any tips on where to take it for the above jobs at a reasonable price let me know)

The car has been fantastic, I get the service light on but it's not everytime I start it, sometimes the mobile phone thats with it gives an error on the dash but it's intermittent...and if there is one thing I would have liked on it that it doesnt have is a 6speed box, it drives great as a 5 speed but sometimes I think it could just do with that extra gear so as to drop the revs and further prolong the like of the car.

I specifically wanted this year as the opinion at the time was that the euro3 engine was the sweet spot for this model etc....

Hope that helps
