Any reason for steel specifically?
Indeed, tend to not get too immersed in certain pages,

Steels preferred for a few reasons... the obscure one being I don't like putting smaller OEM alloys on a car, I think it looks wrong. The more relevant reason is that I live in the wilderness and have cracked two alloys already on ruts or falling off the side of the tracks. Steels generally don't crack and can take a beating, literally so for winter when the chances of damage increase, steels are more aesthetically pleasing and more utilitarian.

I've got Focus five spoke steels on my wife's V50 sport just now for the exact reasons above plus one of its original 18" Medussa was cracked due to a rogue pothole. Basically big alloys and low profile tyres don't really work out here and so putting both on 16" steels with 205/55/16 winter or all season tyres is just far more practical all round.

I'm leaning towards another set of Ford five spokes steels and bore the centres

Just to bring some closure, put a set of Focus 16" five spoke steels on today having done some delicate surgery with a die grinder.
