i was lucky my v50 battery just died over night got a jump start to get me home then by chance i had a new x type battery in the shed , it was 20mm shorter in length but fitted perfect so no worries for some years about a battery , i was surprised how big the v50 battery was for a 1.6D size car compared to an x type estate 2.0D

The Volvo battery might not have a 5 year warranty like your Bosch one, but it is about the same price.

Anyway, I phoned the dealer and ordered the new battery three hours ago now...
dont worry about warranties , the volvo battery will last for over10 years ...

The Volvo branded battery I'm replacing appears to have been made in 2007, so I strongly suspect it has been in the car since it was delivered 11 year ago.

Back in the 70's my father's Volvo 140 GL TUDOR volvo battery lasted 15 years then he sold the car and it carried on no doubt :-)

my grandfather had an OV4. amazingly did over 200,000km on original tyres, battery and only refilled the tank twice. They just don't make them like that anymore

you realise fomoco js the Ford Motor Company and if you buy your alternator from volvo for an V50 it will almost certainly be made by the same OEM as the 'fomoco' one right? I know some volvo parts are made to better QC than the ford C1 variants but I'm pretty sure it's the same alternator........ I could be wrong though, fingers crossed not jinxed it!

Almost but not quite...

The ones sold for the V50 are now reconditioned exchange items, and I am led to believe that they are rebuilt to a higher standard than the original Fixed Or Repaired Daily spec items (brushes, regulators).

I've done a few recently and they are completely plain with just a Volvo sticker on them. No issues so far and one of them has done 90k since.

Whilst the V50 and other FoMoCo based Volvos (V70, XC60 etc.) are great cars, when you work on them the quality differences between them and the Volvo P2 models are quite obvious.

I'd still rather than a V50 than a Focus, Astra, Golf or A4 tho....

well Im sure you are the most ignored member of the forum. Great advice on the alloy wheels though. Software update to change from 17s to 18s... best laugh I've had in a while, shame you were serious though hahaha... and funny though it is, it appears you can dish it out but not take it.... kind of sounds like an insecure bully.... but this is all off topic so I'll leave it at that.... It's a shame andy because you've been able to supply some extremely useless advice that will be missed....
