A bit of a ramble. Spent the last couple of days applying Waxoyl wax and underseal to a few vulnerable areas on our V70.

I used a combination of the paint-on underseal and rattle cans, plus the original Waxoyl gloop applied by both rattle can and pressure sprayer.

Lacking access to a ramp or pit it was a job for jacks and axle stands, doing one corner at a time, sitting, kneeling or lying down. I used a paint brush for the easily accessible areas, topping up with pressure sprayer and rattle cans for the less accessible bits. Now the car is 15 years old I couldn't see any point in spraying large flat areas where the original sealant was very sound.

The Waxoyl sprayer is a great improvement over the earlier one. My only criticism would be that the long extension tube for getting into channel sections is rather too rigid, and fiddling around getting it in and out tends to make the sprayer topple over, but the nozzle does the job well.

The only disappointment was the fastenings for the wheel arch liners. The degradation of the steel clips for the Torx screws was something I should have anticipated and bought in a few replacements. Most were serviceable, but a couple refused to hold really tight on reassembly. All were very rusty, yet the Torx screws were in very good condition. I might revisit that at some point. The plastic nuts screw on to self-tappers that are seemingly welded to the chassis. They were another matter. Removing the nuts effectively removed the thread from the rusty screw and made nut and screw unusable. The only solution for those seems to be to drill a new hole and use a self-tapper and washer. I wasn't expecting this so had no suitable self-tappers.

I haven't done a job like this for 20+ years. It was no fun then, and the same applies now I'm in my mid 70's only more so. I have aches in places I'd forgotten I had. 'Pain is just weakness leaving the body' I tell myself.

I'd like to have done a more thorough job, but I need the car on the road, and it's better than doing nothing. A stud bought in to hang a wheel on takes some of the strain out of getting the wheel back on.

Today I shall mostly be cleaning Waxoyl off myself, the dog, and everything I used or touched in doing the job.

Very impressive Darlo, what products did you use?

In other "what I did today" news, I did my annual oil and filter change. My low annual mileage has become even lower due to my retirement, just over 4k since the last change.

Used cellulose gunmetal grey basecoat with a splash of ford sparkle silver wheel paint and 2k laquer, spray gun used was an Ani R 160Q, all done in my garage at home, not 100% perfect but i'm happy enough, they were all flaking badly so a massive improvement.
