XC60 2013 Vibration judder when turning left or right
I've got a late 2013 XC60 D5 fitted with the Polestar tuning pack.
When turning left or right out of a junction, there's a very noticeable judder/vibration that sounds like it's from the rear of the vehicle. The severity increases with more load. From cold the vehicle doesn't do it for the first mile or so, It certainly feels like something in the drivetrain grabbing then releasing. Last edited by Gazza builder; Apr 8th, 2021 at 22:45. |

I've fitted new rear tires today and it's now doing it constantly, even when driving in a straight line.

I've just been out in it and the slightest steering input left or right when on the move creates the judder/shudder. It's more aggressive when accelerating. Also it feels like the rear of the vehicle is fidgeting/moving about.

It could be the Haldex clutch plates binding. I had the same on my Freelander 2 all of a sudden. That was a Haldex 3, at around 230k km.
Briefly, inside the Haldex is a set of clutch plates which couples the rear differential to the driveshaft exiting the transfer case. It is proportional, hydraulically controlled, so depending on the traction demand, drive to the rear is progressively added. The clutch is therefore designed to slip, which over time, causes scratches on the plates, to the extent that they bind. This is especially noticeable when rounding corners and feels the same as driving on a hard surface with a locked rear differential. Almost as if one wheel is skipping. If this is your symptom, consult your car's owners manual and identify the Haldex or AWD fuse. Pull the fuse and go for a drive. If the issue has now cleared, this is your problem. I don't know whether a Haldex filter and oil change could clear this. PS: Your symptom should only be apparent up to 40km/h, at which point the Haldex clutch opens and the car reverts to front wheel drive. Last edited by JJJ; Apr 9th, 2021 at 20:51. |

I've rotated the wheels and tyres front to back today, so the new tyres are on the front. It's eliminated the problem by about 90%.

Haldex oil change of filter clean today. See if that eliminates the problem completely over the next few hundred mile.

More than likely debris from the Haldex clutch pack.
