Software updates can only be done by a dealer.

Interesting point, it’s possible on a 2017 if it has not been to a main dealer for a while isn’t it! Bit quick on the skin reading my side as mine is a 2012 and as such there are obviously no updates for me (mine was serviced at Volvo last 2018)

Eitherway, you can't do software updates from a DIY VIDA laptop at home, only the main dealer can do it. That's one of the bonuses of getting the dealer to service your car. With your particular vehicle being older, chances are, its probably got its latest software. Although, if it didn't, only the main dealer could update it. An adaptions reset can be done from a DIY VIDA laptop though, but that's not to be confused with a software update. Adaptions & software updates are totally different.

Volvo have NEVER said their transmissions are sealed for life , They have had a service schedule for them for the last 50 years .. It is optional however ... otherwise it would double the cost of the service ... It's up to you and the service department to work out what is best for you .. Yes of course changing the oil would be beneficial .. again internet old wives tales that it causes problems .. they ALWAYS benefit from an oil change and also just as importantly a software update as no doubt that has been neglected ,,, Give it a go

I, patiently, explained that it wasn't the case, and that it was an option. They promised to investigate and return. They never did**. It is out there. I do not claim that my sample of one is in any way representative, but I am also very clear I am not an old wife, least not when I last looked. **They did send me the service history whilst in their hands though, which was helpful. Clan, could you just confirm whether an ATF change is on the Volvo Service Schedule in other than what are described as 'arduous' operating conditions? The service reception staff seem to change on every visit you never see the same person twice .. Its a thankless job to be honest unless you have a serious passion . They don't know how much is involved and how much knowledge they need to know ..... conditions they describe are taxi work or towing or even constant short journeys where the gears are continually changing .. the gearboxes will easily do 100,000+++ miles with no attention , but its the second owner who needs to sort the maintenance .. you could take the small plug out of the centre of the drain plug and see what colour the fluid is that trickles out ..

Hi,
I did reset adaptation after TM oil change with my "Autel MaxiCOM MK808" because TM oil newer been changed before and also because I bought it with high milage so TM could reset and adapt to my driving style. I hope that helps |
