Default **** sake

Last time I ever try and fit a dash cam. I thought the fuse box was suppose to be the hard part. Undid the screw to a pillar, which took me half an hour in itself, then the bottom wouldn’t come adrift. As I’m pulling the lower windscreen cracks.

So rang insurance, £95 excess and have to take it in on Friday for recalibration.

So annoyed!!

Do you think it’s worth asking if they can fit it for me? It’s with national windscreens. I am going to give Volvo road assistance, but I imagine the cost will be more than £95 to repair??

What were you doing, removing the A pillar trim? Remind me which car you have, is it the XC90?

The a pillar trim is a bit tricky getting it disconnected from the vent at the bottom.

S90. Yes, the bottom wouldn’t come out. Removed bolt and the top part came off then I couldn’t get the bottom off. Didn’t realise there was a clip and as I’m pulling my bottom left hand corner windscreen cracked so now have an 8 inch spider crack. It’s only on the outside of the windscreen, can feel it. Inside is smooth.

Since rang Volvo assistance who don’t cover windscreens. Also spoken to Autoglass who are also an approved windscreen repair and they can’t fit me in until the 24th. Explained I am a key worker and autoglass appointment team are going to ring me tomorrow to see if they can fit me in sooner. Depending on the date they give me I can cancel my appointment with national windscreens. Both have said it needs to go to one of their centres as it needs recalibration.

Having this happen on a car you’ve only just picked up is pretty gutting.

Hope you get this sorted out. I can’t help, but can sympathise.

Not really going to help ypu right now, but you certainly need volvo to do the calibration on the camera once the new screen is in. I had a replacement on mine due to the mount for the camera failing (random failure that one!) and they actually fitted a new screen because the mounts are glued to the screen so precisely. When I got it back all calibrated it wasn't right, so give it a good check. Mine wanted to put me in the kerb quite badly, not just the usual left of centre hugging that they all do, but full white line crossing.

To clarify the post above, that’s recalibrating the Volvo cameras and intellisafe in the box behind the rear view mirror, not the dash cam you’re fitting - that’s really your responsibility.

Sorry, yep, that is what i meant. Come to think of it i remember a discussion with another customer on one of my many visits where they were saying that volvo don't approve the use of dash cams due to 'possible' interference with the sensus stuff. Sounds a bit of an excuse but probably worth NOT mentioning anything about a dash cam to them

More expense then

Thanks for the info. I really wish I hadn't bothered doing it. Really not worth it.

If your going through the insurance for the replacement it might be worth pushing them that it should be included in the excess? After all its part of the windscreen replacement 'needs' so shouldnt affect your claims. Not sure as mine was a warranty thing but worth a try?

I think calibration will all be sorted by autoglass. It is part of the fitting so I would certainly say just one excess to pay. Mine had a screen a few years back. I got the dealer to do it (although they subbed out someone to come and fit, the dealer ordered the screen in). The dealer obviously then did the calibration. Just the single excess to pay to the insurance company...
