Good morn and welcome.

I'm guessing you have bought the car as a project, it having been off the road for a year. The biggest of the issues with it will be the welding at the front, the other faults on the MoT fail were niff naff and trivia:

Nearside Front Play in steering rack inner joint(s) ()

Nearside Front Fluid leak, but not excessive (8.4.1 (a) (i))
Offside Rear Exhaust mounting defective (6.1.2 (a))

It looks like a nice car though, and you have come to the right place to get some advice on fixing it up. I always think it is a good idea to establish one's aims when embarking on a re-commissioning project (or if you decide to a restoration). It is easy to spend a fortune, so I'd say don't get carried away - even in top condition a 1990 car isn't going to be worth more than about £5,000 (it is a long way from being an historic vehicle, that is the point at which cars begin to appreciate).

The rust needs sorting out first. If you are going to do the welding and sealing yourself then you will already understand what is required. If not I'd say it is worth biting the bullet and getting it done properly now, if someone tacks patches on you will end up doing it again in a few years - and then it will be much worse.

It will be nice to get news of your project as you go - so do post some words and pictures. It would be worth you looking through a few other projects on this forum as well - 240s mostly fail in the same places so you will almost certainly find a precedent for all the problems.

PS. To answer your question: I don't know whether the car came from a forum member, but others here may know more than I do.

Yeah. Agree, cut out the rust before re-plating and welding.

My welding I had done on jacking point/outriggers were patch welded and nearside only lasted 2 years. Cost £120 from memory.

Rust is the enemy of the 240!

Sold my 1989 240GLT estate around 2 years ago, and replaced it with a 1996 940 LPT Auto estate.

Thanks guys. I’ve now welded her - cut out the bit of rot and let in new metal. It wasn’t very big - about as big as a bottle top. It’s all MOT’d now.

It’s going for some paint next week, once that’s done I’ll post up some updated pictures.
