Default Does anyone use key fob protective sleeves?

I tend to keep my car keys in my pocket, along with my other keys/change.

This has never really been an issue in the past, but with the new leather key fob for the Volvo, I'd really like to keep it looking nice if I can.

Does anyone use any covers for their key fob to protect them? I've seen cheap silicone covers on ebay and some expensive carbon fibre looking ones.

I use this
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Leather-H....m46890.l49292

Seems ok - I paid £15 and seems to protect the fob Ok although I’ve had to separate my house keys cause the fob is so big.

The only thing is because of covid my car keys are almost always in a signal blocker box rather than in my pocket so it’s not getting the kind of hack I usually give keys.

I normally only ever use the buttonless sports key, if I do use the leather key, if going in for service or the odd time I have used it, I wrap a bit of cling film round it to stop the garage fitters getting it dirty. (Mine are blond napper leather)

Yep. Bought a couple of genuine Volvo leather sleeves off eBay. Cost about 20 quid each, but good quality.

Looks nice! Unfortunately I don't have keyless entry, so I need access to the side buttons.

There's a few on Etsy that look nice but how well they work in real life is an entirely unknown thing.

I find the boxes much better. Available on Amazon etc. I found that the pouches ‘expire’ after 6 months. Then I come to test them again and the car will unlock despite still being in the pouch.

The box has lasted me far longer thus far.

I always put a case over these smart keys due to the fact that they will spend nearly all the time at the bottom of your pocket with all manner of stuff rubbing against them (stop sniggering, you know what I mean).
Nice and cheap (£4) wins the day and I have silicone cases on ours which are absolutely fine. Ours has keyless but these covers have the various button icons on the side. It doesn't really matter what it looks like as it's hidden away anyway. Unless, of course, you are the kind of individual who saunters into the pub, tosses the keys on the bar and says " Sorry, I'm late but I just took the old Volvo for a spin" in which case you need a different car.
Not sure I used this particular eBay seller but the exact same thing:-
Volvo Silicone Key Cover

Ignore the photo of the tiny hand holding what looks like a massive cover.

Since I’ve had my car, albeit only two weeks, I have used the key once or twice.

I just leave it in my bag as its keyless. Can’t say I’ve thought about getting a protective sleeve.

Yeah, I think I'll order one of these. I got a bit sidetracked looking at fancy leather ones which will only add more bulk to my already bulging pockets.

Thanks a lot for this.
