Default Cannot shut tailgate

Hi,
I have a v50 2008.
The boot has been locked for the last year or so. Today it opened. No idea how.
But now it will not shut as the latch is stuck in the locked position.
So now I cannot lock the boot.
Is there a way that i can unlock the latch manually?

WD40 sprayed liberally on catch mechanism is where I'd start

I did that and it didnt work.
I did manage to trigger it by sticking a screwdriver in and pressing on the spring. But it is still only possible to do it that way.
Unfortunately I had to shut the tailgate knowing that it might not open again as I couldnt leave it open overnight.

This occasionally happened on my Astravan. I used to fix it by clicking the lock/unlock on my remote a few times with the tailgate open.
