Default 4G USB Dongle instead of volvo modem

Hi All

I was wondering if it's possible to connect a 4G USB dongle into the car instead of using the volvo modem?

Would VOC still work? Would in car wifi still work?

In a nutshell I'm really happy that I'm gonna have in-car wifi - much less happy about being limited to 3G speeds (2016 XC90)

Only for vehicles with Sensus Connected Touch (so not SPA vehicles)

https://www.volvocars.com/uk/support...onnected-touch

SPA vehicles depend on the internal modem or sharing via hotspot from your personal phone.

Can't imagine that a 4G dongle is going to work to be honest.

VOC though has its own connection completely separate from the WiFi/mobile data that you can control via the Sensus menu so will be unaffected.

If your car has the modem, You can use a wireless 4g mifi/dongle with a data sim instead of the cars modem to download updates etc and the car can use it as a wifi hotspot, I have a huawei wireless router mifi and link it to the car, which I can take out and use in my caravan. Sensus will pick up any available wifi singnal. You just select it from the list and put the password in the same as any other wifi connection.
It works the same as using your phone data.
I use one of these,

VOC does not require a wifi connection in the car. As long as the device you are using has one the car will communicate, it uses its own independent connection, unless you use a sim then it uses that connection, but if that sim data runs out or is removed it reverts back to its own connection.
