Default V70 d3(163) problem starting

Hi,I’m new to the forum and I’m looking for some help please from you guys.
I have a 2011 d3 geartronic.it has starting causing me starting problems.
The car runs fine and starts at the press of the button but lately it takes many cranks to start it wether the motor is warm or cold.
The other day it totally gave up the ghost and wouldn’t start,I had only turned the engine off for 5 mins while I popped into the house.
I called the rac and the guy wasn’t to sure what the problem is but after about 30 mins of trying to start it and spraying easy start into air system which did nothing
(But gave me soot filter full warning)
He said it looks like fuel problem.he took the fuel line off from the high pressure pump while snapping of the clip in the process!!
Then we cranked the car over with fuel line disconnected and no fuel came out.
So he said it looks like the pump in the tank could be faulty.
I let the car sit on the drive for 24hrs and I tried to start it again and fired right up!.
So is the pump faulty or could it be something else,if it is the in tank pump is it a straight forward job to take the tank off.
All filters was changed on the car as I fitted a recon engine 2000 miles ago
But is really heavy on fuel but that’s another problem.
Any help would be grateful.
Thankyou
Steve
