Check your owners manual. Some models take JWS3309, then there was a change over to AW-1.

Hallmark Volvo in Stockport (independent garage, not dealership).
Eastbourne parts Volvo are cheaper than Mann etc...

I presume that there's delivery charges though? I get Mann parts at a local shop at trade price. Phone up, order, collect in an hour/two at the most.

Yeah mine is full of AW-1, it's just finding oil that meets that spec which I find confusing.

Aisin Premium ATF 6+ FE looks like a good match, but when you read the data sheet it mentions that fluid is for Aisin's 7 speed boxes.

Most of the other AW-1 oils also mention meeting spec JWS3309.. how is that possible considering they are supposed to be different. Just wish we could find out who the OEM is of the Volvo AW-1 and buy direct from them, as Volvo do seem to be putting a big premium on the price to include their badge on the bottle.

I stand to be corrected but my understanding is that if your car requires AW1 then that is what you must use BUT if your care requires JWS 3309 then AW1 can be used as it meets or exceeds specification.👍

That is my understanding and it seems logical but check thoroughly for yourself

I always use a Mann oil filter in my D5 because as you rightly say it is the same item found in the Volvo box. Currently it is £8.79 at ECP although I have had the Volvo boxed ones cheaper off Ebay ( under £5 ).

That makes sense & I'm pretty sure I've read that somewhere too.

Think I will use Toyota Type WS ATF when the time comes as it looks so much cheaper then Volvo AW-1. I just wonder if the two fluids can be mixed, as I just plan to do sump dumps every other service. Hmmm.

For ANY TF80 gearbox JWS3309 and AW-1 spec fluid can be used and will do the job perfectly well with no impact on longevity etc.

The difference is AW-1 was a later developed fluid with slightly lower viscosity and was used for MPG/emissions reason on later cars.

It’s a far greater benefit that the fluid is changed frequently than a 2013 car gets AW-1 or a 2009 car gets 3309.

No doubt you are right on that! I've just posted a question on that thread so let's see if people are still active over there. I would love to continue just using the Volvo AW-1.. but it's bloody extortionate! Unsurprisingly the Toyota equivalent is far cheaper.
