So it would seem that between MY2004 and My2007 Volvo changed the functioning of the ignition switch. Given this information I am not going to take the trouble to replace the 'relocker pin' which I removed.

I suppose that this change was made to further retard theft.

It could be that this was accomplished by a change in the position of the lobe on the cam on the ignition barrel which actuates the mechanical cable between the ignition lock and the gear shifter.

How do I find the hard steel plate on the underside of the lock. It sounds so simple but I am sorry I am not able to locate. Is there any way you can send a picture?
My 2007 xc90 has been sitting there for 2 weeks now and I need to try to do it myself and getting driving again.

Default XC90 ignition key wont pass pos one solved

When this happened on my 2006 xc90, we found that the steering lock mechanism had fallen apart inside the barrell, just took all he pieces out and binned them, works perfectly now, only got charged for one hour labour, no steering lock, but doesnt bother me as there are other anti theft devices like the shifter lock
