Power Steering Pump/Belt garage cost XC90
Hi,
I would really appreciate some feedback on a quote I received today (from a standard garage not Volvo garage/dealer) A week ago my partner complained of stiff steering on her 05 XC90 which made a strange sound during turning so I checked tyre pressures etc then checked the power steering reservoir. I found that using the built in dipstick thing under the cap that it was not registering at the minimum level. I topped it up with power steering fluid I found in the shed (Maybe slightly over filled it as it registered just over the max line when I checked after filling. oops) The next day my partner took it to work and thought it was better, but on driving it back the evening later, the sound was back and the power steering fluid was empty again! I took it to the garage and tonight they called and said it needed a new power steering pump, high pressure hose and belt? All in totalling £752! (I'm presuming with fitting/labour etc also) They also said they had sourced non Volvo parts, as Volvo parts inc labour would run over £1000, supposedly to try and make me feel a bit better. I think I am going to take it to another garage to get a second opinion as I think this is extortionate. I would be very grateful of any replies from people with their opinions/experience with this. Cheers BM |

You won’t need a pump they never burn out .they can leak at hose due to corrosion or damaged also oil coolers leak at front too if it was me I’d change hose that is faulty top up fluid and bleed it..what’s wrong with belt large cracks ? Or broken please update

I don't know enough about it to change the hose and bleed it.
How do I properly check the belt for cracks/breakages? |
