Default This really is Progress

Whilst I support the sentiments expressed here that this (poorly designed) faulty part should be replaced FoC, it is a major step forward that VCUK have decided to reduce the cost of the replacement (refurbished?) ETM's.

The cynical side of me says they have pitched the price at a level that will deter anyone seeking legal redress through the small claims court which costs £150 to initiate (this is recoverable if you win) but most people will opt to pay their dealer.

This is real progress and if it is a national policy it is excellent if a little late!

However, if the car is low mileage then it should be replaced FoC.

I am also very pleased to see that all the ETM threads are now in one place on the forum - well done to whoever arranged this.

Given the cost to reclaim being £250 you are then in the reams of a court fee of about £30 Add that to the £250 and you are still in the bounds of the same charge.
£30 quid to get your money back.
And to upset Volvo UK.... And you will be mentioning them in the action as co-defendants...

I use the same dealer as CTC Network (Stratstone in Nottingham). I just got back from them just now (also spotted Des's V90 there again lol - small world eh!).

The dealer said the ETM replacement is about £136 for the part and with the fitting labour and another additional software download - the job inclusive of VAT was quoted at £289.

I know it is not a dealer issue, but Volvo UK should really have sorted this out .
Sorted out correctly, and from the beginning. They have had every opportunity to do so. Like the banks and charges, this should be handled in the same way..

I just tried to call Volvo UK (based in Coventry, got their number off the Volvocar website) to enquire and dig for information regarding the ETM and what their position is. After 17 minutes on hold I hung up.

Volvo HO isn't in Coventry; it's in Marlow.

If you've rung Volvo in Coventry you're most likely to have spoken to Volvo Truck or Volvo Construction Equipment... so no wonder you were on hold for so long!!!

I've had to call that number many times over the past month or so, with the average waiting time being well over 20mins. Once you get through, the first line staff are very polite and helpful, but I don't think they measure waiting times as when I pointed out my 28 min waiting time earlier this week, the lady answering seemed shocked and apologised.

Default ETM price??

Can anyone tell me if this price drop to £250 for a replacement etm is across the board throughout the uk? I had the "FOC" clean and software upgrade done 5 months ago on my 2000 V70 T5 SE when the cruise control threw the towel in, after the engine had been surging for a few days. It seemed to solve the problem until yesterday then it started hunting again only this time more irratically and at varied speeds. I am yet again left banging my head against a brick wall after buying what was thought to be one of the most reliable and safe cars on the road. Looks like a phone call to Rybrooks of Warrington is on the cards for tomorrow. Anyone any advise?

Ring Volvo first and talk to customer services, see number just a couple of posts above. Be nice, tell them you've had the problem for ages and that the software didn't fix it for long.

They may offer an extra discount on the £250, but that is now the base price. They'll give you a reference number that you can then give to your local friendly dealer. This avoids time wasting, haggling, etc....

Got my number, just waiting to agree some other items before getting this and a lot of other work done.
