I've been in touch with Phil (noiseboy) about bracket attachment and the correct Volvo fitting combines security with a lack of holes in the boot (and probably the tailgate for estates, though I was discussing saloons).

The Volvo spoiler is held on by two clips that go over the edge of the bootlid and a piece of double-sided tape to hold down the centre section with the light on it.

The lighting wires are fed through a flat plastic thingy on the side of the lid that also does not damage the paint.

It's very solid - I would not fit a spoiler depending on glue no matter what the makers say; indeed I'm very surprised they say anything so hazardous.

Their glue may hold elephants to walls, but the paint itself may not be properly keyed onto the metal - so the whole plot can shoot off and through the windscreen of the car behind, beheading the driver, his wife and kids.

Not a nice thought.

A friend of mine had problems witht he spoiler on his 460 (about 1996) he brought the car new from a dealer in Menton Mowbry (sorry about my appaling spelling :P ) and he had no end of problems. It was held in place by double sided stuff and came off at the side, so he took it back, it came off again and he took it back again. A third time it came off and when it came back it had that much double sided stuff under it you could see daylight around the tape and get you nail uner the edge of the spoiler easily. In the end he gave the car back to them and brought an 850 saloon - so how good is the double sided tape really?

Finally got this sorted amicably with my dealer...he's been let down by the suppliers no longer including brackets.

The ASD instructions state to use the glue, with no mention of brackets, though the spoiler still has the bolt holes for brackets.

I've bitten the bullet and ordered brackets from Volvo for £30 as the spoiler is identical to the Volvo one. So now it's going to be glued and bracketed.

I think a few people involved in this supply chain have been surprised that brackets are no longer supplied a standard...unlesssomeone somewhere is taking them out to make £30 extra profit reselling them.

I've just bought an ASD spoiler, got it sprayed for £70 quid and then got the brackets. It's now sitting proud on the top of the tailgate and finishes off a great looking car. PS. I glued and screwed the brackets to the spolier and used the sticky pads that came with the brackets aswell.

Seems like we have to bite the bullet and buy the brackets for the best fit. They certainly make the estate look a lot sexier.
It just p@sses me off that we would be liable for any damage/injury caused by the spoiler falling off, and have to spend another £30 for brackets that should really have been included in the first place.
I wonder if anyone has been prosecuted/sued for a spoiler failure and had any comeback on the fitting company...

Further to reading the massages on this thread I have just ordered an ASD 850 estate tailgate spoiler from Euro Car Parts, thanks to you all for the info.

Regards,

You don't really need the pads or the glue if you use the mounting kit. However, I haven't been through any auto car washes since having a spoiler fitted.

Has anyone else

Rather than pay for autowashes, I bought a £100 pressure washer instead.
