Default Swedish police first to use V90 estate as a police car.

The Swedish police will take delivery of its first V90 police cars early next year after the car recently achieved the highest rating ever in the Swedish police’s highly demanding driving test.

Looks just fantastic and I'm sure a sound replacement for the V70 in service.

I look forward to seeing them appear in the UK.

I bet it's very expensive. Seems too nice to use as a police car.

I can imagine the car thieves would love to ram it. Like the clip using a BMW X5 did on a police car. I think traffic cars should have US style nudge bars to give better protection to damage.

Police range rovers used to have some sort of nudge bar to push broken down cars off the motorway, they don't do that anymore!

Saw a V90 estate the other day, fantastic looking motor, may be able to afford a ten year old one with 200k+ on the clock when I retire!

Given how expensive Volvo's have become, will the UK police force buy into them?

Also, are these vehicles too stylish to be police cars?

Volvo are on the UK Preferred Supplier list for Roads Policing cars along with Audi (which really means VW Group) and BMW.

Yes, they will, as the vehicles are bought at a lower price than a retail model. They have reduced options and only those necessary for their role will be included. Added to that, police forces are buying these cars in bulk and not paying VAT.

The fleet managers will conduct a comparison between the reliability of higher quality marques and balance this against time spent off the road for poorer quality. ie, 4 BMWs or Volvos might be capable of doing the same amount of work as 6 Insignias, if one of the insignias is always in the workshop. You get the idea..

Here's examples of these vehicles already being used. The T6 XC90 hybrid is on loan to the Met due to the impending diesel charge. Theyre turning to a petrol/electric fleet asap..

The best patrol car I ever drove was a VW Vento VR6 with 2.9lt engines as opposed to the 2.8lt engine. We got 2 which were original prepared as VW rally team cars. at their end of life we got 4 new Ventos with the 2.8lt engines although good they were no where near the originals.
However the best looking patrol car goes to Volvo S60's these just looked the part, didn't live up to what was needed but looked spot on. I am waiting to see a V90 liveried up in real life.
