Default C30 running problem

Hi. As well as my V70 my son has a C30. (2008 1.6 diesel SE). Recently he has the following problem:

While driving at normal speed on open roads the car suddenly reduces revs and speed to a max of 55mph. This happens at random with no regularity or fixed conditions. It maybe some kind of limp mode but limping at 55 mph? Help please?

I am sorry if I break club/forum rules by asking on behalf of my son.

Wrong forum site mate but as a mechanic you need to plug in diagnostic and check for codes as a start
