940 Lambda light.
Hi All,
After the marathon task of replacing the radiator, exhaust manifold gasket and turbo to engine block oil return pipe on my 940, I was left with the lambda light glowing at me in a most annoying fashion. A phone call to my local dealer Lipscomb's of Maidstone,(For whom I have the utmost respect)and the car was booked in for a "System Reset" Quoted at £40.00+vat. The morning of the arranged visit, the exhaust backbox decided to explode, bursting open at the somewhat rusty seam and reducing performance to boot. I cancelled the dealer visit and opted for a local tyre and exhaust outfit to replace the offending exhaust.(STS Man on Wheels aka Stapletons Tyre Services, branches all over the south) Fast forward a week or so and I find myself assisting my 23yr old son to recommision his car after a 12 month lay up. As part of the procedure I loaned him the battery from my car and used the (New) battery from his car on mine, so as to fully charge it over a week or so of regular use. To my amazement, when I restarted my 940, no lambda light. So, if you have a similar problem, try disconnecting the battery, making sure you have the radio code first. Finally, if you are ever in the unenviable situation of needing to remove the oil return pipe from your vehicle's turbo and the split pin which secures the wastegate actuation rod to the wasgate actuation lever snaps off in its hole. Don't fret, just buy yourself a depth setting collar as used on drill bits, (The type which grip the flutes of the drill with an allen headed grub screw)and use this in place of the splitpin, I did and it works a treat. Happy Volvo-ing. Paul ;-) |

RE: 940 Lambda light.
You could probably acheived the extinction of the Lambda light by resetting your diagnostic unit codes. All the best, Peter |

RE: 940 Lambda light.
They charge 40 quid plus VAT to press a few buttons to reset the lambda light? That is [unprintable] unbelievable. What a scam.

RE: 940 Lambda light.
You want to try to get them to plug in the diagnostic computer. £85 + vat to do a slightly better job than the manual system.
I charge my customers nothing if i do the work and £10 if i dont. I also find that most of the agent 'mechanics' cannot use the computer correctly and misdiagnose faults. |
