Draining the rear Axle
Hi,
I've just finished checking the rear axle oil on my 940GLE and found it to be black in colour, I'm sure it would benefit from a change although there is no drain plug on the underside. Any suggestions on how to drain it and what type and how much oil to use would be appreciated. Thanks Nick |

RE: Draining the rear Axle
Nick,
Never done it, but I would try siphoning it out using a plastic pipe fully loaded with clean oil with a thumb over one end. When the other end of the pipe is as far down inside the casing as it will go, lower the end with your thumb into a container remove your thumb and hope that the oil runs out. The longer vertical drop you have on the pipe the better it will work. My 940 hand book specifies API-GL-5(MIL-L-2105C or D) viscosity SAE 80 or 80W/90. 1.6 to 1.75L. But I would fill it up to the plug. best of luck. Richard. 940 2.3 LPT est |

RE: Draining the rear Axle
Just remove lowest bolt from casing ( with fill plug off). Oil will pour out. Refit bolt and refill to level.
