Default gearbox oil leak

Hello all, 940 AUTO est. 2Ltr. 1993 I have had a very slight oil leak from the gearbox but was unable to pinpoint the exact
point of the leak. Replaced the rear oil seal but still a niggleing drip. Then a week ago, as I made the sharp turn into my
entrance and for 20 yards or so till I parked a continuous run of oil. Nothing drastic then untill again today the same run of oil
on reaching home. This run of oil always starts at the point of brakeing out on the road. Does this sound familiar? Any ideas
please. Thanks in advance for your thoughts. Eddie

I would check the brake fluid level as a matter of priority and PDQ. Are you sure that it is engine oil, ATF or brake fluid. Which rear oil seal did you replace and did you DIY? It is quite possible that the oil seal was replaced incorrectly which tends to negate it's ability to seal.

All the best, Peter

Hello Peter, No, without doubt it is ATF. All other fluids and levels OK. The gearbox oil seal that was replaced was the rear one, where the prop. goes in. It was done at the local garage. I am thinking now that it could be the front gearbox oil seal, especially since the leak is worse when I brake and stop, throwing the oil forwards then leaking fron the bellhousing. Does that sound feasable?

That is certainly feasible. Have you managed to check the bellhousing to gearbox attachment bolts and have you been able to ascertain if the torque converter is functioning correctly and hasn't sprung a leak as this is actually inside the bellhousing. If the box has been overfilled the excess can find it's way from the torque converter into the bellhousing and thence to the ground. If the trouble still persists I will have to look at the gearbox Green Books to see just what is involved.

All the best, Peter
