how do you find it?

and do you get everything you need in the box ?

Yeah seems fine. make sure you check which mount you get with it, there's 2, a suction (what I have, like a satnav one), or a sticker mount (more akin to a rear view mirror type sticker mount) if it comes with a sticker mount, I would recommend the suction mount as an extra. Comes with a memory card.

You can get a phone app to view videos and change settings although In reality I don't use it.

Camera quality seems good.

I've got a next base camera behind the rear view mirror on the passenger side, the cable tucks behind the roof lining and a pillar trims. It's hard wired into the fuse box under the glove box using an add a circuit adaptor (search eBay for that) and via a cigarette lighter socket (also from eBay) so no wires needed to be cut. FYI the fuse for the 12v socket in the centre console is in that fuse box and it's a switched live (i.e. On with ignition). Mines a MY17 earlier cars might differ.

This happened in front of me today, youtube has compressed it a lot or I've uploaded it wrong so the quality looks quite bad. The original is clear:

Thanks Gus, I'm looking for a dash cam to get professionally fitted, can I ask

What did you pay for the camera and which model is it.
At what distance from the car in front roughly can the camera make out the reg number.
Is it acceptable at night.
If there is a screen on the dash cam unit can it be turned off so not to distract.

I ask as user feedback and recommendation is so important, I quizzed the guy in Halfords and he told me that even their best nexbase unit has a screen you can only turn down but not off. I have no desire to watch the footage 'live' but need to know it records it in good quality, doesn't crash or overheat and can retrieve the footage when need as you have done here, thanks again..

Mine is a transcend drive pro 200 paid around £50-60 I believe (I'm a savvy shopper, found a good deal on amazon the used a site called 'Flubit' who got me a further 10% offi)

Footage is classed at 1080p, I think I converted my youtube footage to the wrong format which is why it doesn't look great. But I'm sure you can find other footage from the same camera on youtube. Day and night video is good.

I've set it so the screen turns off after X amount of seconds.

Loop recording so you don't have to worry about the memory card getting full up (standard feature on all dashcams I believe)

I tried 'cheaper' units and some straight from China which I just didn't trust...kept turning off..stopped recording...etc so I thought rather than me trying to save some money, just buy one that's from a reputable brand that I can trust.

There's plenty to chose from out there on the Web at almost every price point...but id recommend this Drive Pro 200
