I posted here a while back ("V60 dashcam installation") with a set of pictures and a run down on installation. A search should find it easily. It is really not complicated and having done it once, it is a 30 minute job. You just need to find a switched or live fuse, depending on your preference, in the fuse box in the passenger footwell and tap into it using a piggy back fuse. Then run the power feed up under the trim etc to the rear view mirror area.

I have it done it twice now, in the V60 and then in its replacement, a RAV4. It really is very straightforward for the average handyman. I can see no reason at all why it would invalidate a warranty. There is no physical cutting of wires etc.

My original E Prance 0801 gave up the ghost after a couple of years. I took it apart and replaced the battery, lithium ion job bought on eBay for £5.17, and it worked for a while before packing up again. Apparently the main problem with them is that the batteries within them die due to extreme heat. Easily replaced but better if possible to buy a dashcam that has a capacitor. Indeed a dead battery can be replaced with a capacitor costing about the same. The battery or capacitor does not actually run the dashcam but simply has enough oomph to save the final image and shut down the software.

Nextbase ones are flavour of the month at the moment and have batteries, as do most of the popular makes. They will almost certainly die after a while due to the battery. An easy fix with the help of YouTube, eBay and amazon (soldering kit £15). I now have a Maplin cheapie, £6.99 with a years guarantee, that seems OK so far. It is an A94LC said to be refurbished but actually fresh out of the box. See the Maplin clearance store on eBay. I will upgrade to a gps model in due course, probably a nextbase.

Good luck, Velocette.

Hi - could you tell me what fuze you have hard wired it into - the chaps at Halfords informed me that the fuzes are always live so the dash Will be on even when the ignition is off - not ideal really
