As the title. I have had about a dozen Volvo in the past and now looking to update my diesel passat. Ideal car for me has to pull well (caravan, 1400kg), comfortable, and economical. I love the 2.4d but I'm told the newish 2.0 5 pots are good. Because I've been out of the Volvo scene for a few years, I've lost track of what is and what isn't good on later models. I'll probably be looking at 2013/2014. So if anyone has any advice through experience they can share that would be great. Rear space is not a concern, nor is the DPF. Thanks. Gwyn.

Posted question a while ago now and not a single reply. One hundred plus views. Guy asking similar question after my posting, many replies! No problem I'll try elsewhere. :sad_smile

They are great cars TBH, avoid the newer D3/D4 4 cylinder engines as they seem to have issues. The D2 can also have issues and if you towing you'll need to look at the D3/D4/D5. The 5 cylinder engines are volvo engines, and are great really smooth and quiet and quite quick.

I have a 2013 D4 R design and its a pleasure to drive and surprising chuckable for it size, great fun and handles well. Personally I think the D3/D4 is the pick of the bunch adequate perfromance and better MPG than the D5. I think they are a really good size not massive like a V70, but still have loads of space and are a bit more engaging to drive than the V70, and in my opinion better looking.

I'm currently toying with selling mine, as I want to get back in a T5 now my commute doesn't demand a diesel
