Default inlet manifold question

Hi all
I’m new on here and a new owner of an XC60 2009 D5
Do love it, But had a few problems so far.
Engine warning light came on after I filled up with oil.. I read that it may be because I fill it up to the max, and meant to be 3/4?
Anyway so today I’ve done an oil and filter change.
I also removed the throttle body to clear out the enormous amounts of crud and soot. I’ve also cleaned out the egr
But my question is , and I’m sure it’s been covered before but can’t seem to find the answer.. surly the inside of the inlet manifold needs cleaning?
I’ve found videos on how to remove it fully, but I want to know how to open it?
As in take the lid off.
Is this what you guys have done to clean out inside?
Am I right in thinking I need to do this?
The pipe from the egr was chocka as well

I also noticed it was also missing the swirl flaps arm linkage thing. So got a new one ordered in.
I can’t seem to get this to clip on and stay on the big ball flaps side.
Is there a trick to it? I can’t see how it would stay on? Any thoughts on that!?

Another problem we’ve had is the leaking windscreen.., I bought the car in the hot weather we’ve had lately so didn’t know about it. I’ve got some tolleys sealer on order and hope that fixes it. My local windscreen place quoted 120 to remove and reseal.

Anyway. We still really like the Volvo, it feels great to be driving such a beast!
I look forward to picking peoples brains and getting loads of info from the forum!
Cheers guys

or can I use instant gasket stuff around all the seals before refitting?

you have to take the whole inlet manifold off , whilst it is off you might as well fit a new swirl throttle shaft as the ball wears that is why you cannot fit your link on . you have to replace the injector fitting kits and the injector pipes to ensure a safe leak-free job , as you might imagine this is a £800 job in the dealer .

The windscreen will probably be leaking along the top , press the glass outwards at the top you will see the glass moving , it should be solid , I guess you bought someone elses problem car .

great thanks for the info. swirl throttle shaft you mean the shaft of all the flaps? or are you talking about the little linkage arm?

I'm not sure if itll work as yet to start the car need to put things back together, but im not sure if others have noticed this, but ive flipped the arm around, as the platstic socket has little tags on the bigger hole end, so managed to push it on so the tags sit on the inside of the ball. It a bit of a funny angle but should hold, and is nice tight on the balls.

Regarding the leaky windscreen, I had my 2008 XC60's screen resealed last year by my local Volvo dealer FOC even though it had been bought from somewhere else, so before you spend your own hard earned, try your local Volvo dealer, just speak to the service manager, took about 2 weeks to get to the ok from HQ but dealer was more than happy to organise, sorted a couple of days later, all good now.

just an update if anyones interested... or if anyone finds they get a leaky windscreen,,,

I did as you suggested and popped it down my local volvo dealer. He booked it in and arranged for someone to come down from somewhere to inspect it.
It had to be a genuine screen and no damage.
So took it in... and I didn't hear anything till the next day, had a call and it was all sorted! free of charge!
There was a £15 fee as they needed to change some wiring to the heating element for the cameras and sensors in the top of the screen for lane depart and all that, before they could recalibrate them after screen replacement.

Really amazing, and thanks for the suggestion to pop in! Totally surprised they'd do it for free on a 9 year old car that I didn't get from them!
Oh there was also a recall on a pulley, so whilst it was in they changed that as well.
So all in all a great service!

Cheers

you don't realise how lucky you are , that is a disadvantage buying a car out of the dealer network and never visiting one , that was a vital recall and would have wrecked your engine sooner or later …

Always wise to visit a dealer now and again ...
