Thats good to Know Adam.

I havent decided on what pads to go for yet but the bigger brakes I am fitting are 282mm, and the Rover weighs in a fair bit lighter than an 850, I was planning on just running solid discs and good pads, redstuff was my plan with a seperate pad for track days, how is the longevity of the DS2500? I think a mate used these on his Skyline which had a lot of power and would have been similar in weight to an 850, perhaps a tad heavier, results were good, but found they wore out quickly.

I'm on my third set of DS2500 and none of them have ever squealed.

My supplier said to get them to 'race temp' after fitting as if you don't they will wear out quicker- something to do with heat causing a chemical reaction in the friction material... (?) sounded plausible to me ;)

Squealing depends on discs as well as pads - some discs have a resonant frequency that the pads excite (like mine) and some obviously don't.

High friction pads tend to cause resonance more than the standard compound, but as said above at least the DS2500s do bite from cold and when soaked - unlike full race pads which are lethal in road use.

Indeed Simon, my friend with his tunign business was once bringing a 106 Qucksilver back from an MOT test, it had a relatively paltry 90 bhp, but was stripped out, lowered and stiffened, HUGE brakes (ie porsche carrera brake ovnersion, I'm surprised it didnt stand on its front end on track days). Owner guaranteed brakes were useable when he brought it in, not a chance, took a good 2-4 stamps to warm them up enough to even resemble brakes, ok it was a good track car, but useless on the road.

Too often people dont appreciate the difference between a road car....tuned road car...and a proper race car, the fact is, to get full race car performance, your car is going to be useless on the road in any practical sense. Your best bet for a fast car is to go for a tuned road car and then learn to appreciate its shortcomings in certain real world areas, and hopefully not be shown them, like I did recently by bouncing the £600+ rebuilt gearbox with fancy bits in off of the road at 60/70mph and destroying the casing becasue the car was too low for use on b-roads at speed, but great round a corner, I have now ordered different springs to lift it a bit, but it's a lesson I'd rather not have been forced to learn.

Hi Guys,
I am using the ferodo ds 2500 front and rear with braided lines ,its the second set on the front, yhey are fantastic cold or hot, lots and lots of high temp grease packed in behind the caliper ,reduces the squel as well regular powerhosing around the caliper to release the dust.

Jason.
