Default A few questions about my '07 S80 v8

Hi all,

I've had my S80 v8 for a couple of weeks now, and it needs a few things sorting, thought I'd ask for some advice.

1. The AC compressor needs replacing. Mechanic has advised that the clutch (AC compressor clutch I mean) is going. Does anyone have any recommendations where I can get a replacement from?

2. The rear suspension on the left hand side has a noticeable squeak. I gather it's a bit of a They All Do That, Sir problem, could anyone recommend what parts are likely to need replacing?

3. The premium sound system is a bit underwhelming and I don't think I have the sub fitted. I understand it usually goes in the spare wheel well? Anyone know where I can source one from?

4. I don't have a spare wheel either (honestly, who specs a car like this without a spare wheel?!), would it have had a spacesaver or a full size wheel? And again does anyone have any recommendation for what type I should get?

Attached a picture of it because everything is better with pictures.

Any and all help appreciated.

What exactly are the symptoms and behaviour of the AC?

Thanks for the reply.

I've detailed it here: https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=280214

In short, a grinding noise at low speed. It goes away when I turn the AC off.

1. The AC compressor needs replacing. Mechanic has advised that the clutch (AC compressor clutch I mean) is going. Does anyone have any recommendations where I can get a replacement from?

It is usually possible to replace just the clutch though Volvo probably wouldn't sanction that. I would check the part number to see if it is used on any other models and get a used one. The clutch clearance can also be adjusted - I think there is an article on the P2 V70 or XC90 forum on how to do this. Changing just the clutch (if you can get access) also removes the need to drain/re-gass the system.

2. The rear suspension on the left hand side has a noticeable squeak. I gather it's a bit of a They All Do That, Sir problem, could anyone recommend what parts are likely to need replacing?
Cobblers - I believe the rear suspension is shared with P3 XC70 and XC60, something will be squeaking, you need to identify it and replace it. If you can replicate it by rocking the car when stationary then get underneath it it should be obvious

3. The premium sound system is a bit underwhelming and I don't think I have the sub fitted. I understand it usually goes in the spare wheel well? Anyone know where I can source one from?
Not sure on the S80 but on the V70 it is within the plastic "insert" under the boot. If it is absent you will probably find a looped fibre optic cable for it. I would start with e-bay unless you have deep pockets.

4. I don't have a spare wheel either (honestly, who specs a car like this without a spare wheel?!), would it have had a spacesaver or a full size wheel? And again does anyone have any recommendation for what type I should get?
Plenty of them on e-bay for circa £30 and Volvo dealers usually do a good deal on a kit with the wheel, jack and brace. It's a spacesaver but much, much better than no spare

Hi,

What was the report on the last MOT like? Any mentions or advisories?
Might be a clue to anything that may be loose or worn on the back end.

Des. . .

Probably find one cheaper than this Volvo labeled one, but here you go. Google is your friend.

They certainly do not all squeak !
What it could be is a stone trapped in a rear spring at the bottom , also a stone stuck somewhere along the anti-roll bar between bar and subframe .
