So. Looking at that post I see you have a 2018 XC60 T8.

I think - but am not sure - that this vehicle has an on-board petrol powered pre-heater. If it does you should be able to easily trigger it in the car. If you open the climate menu, click at the top for parking heater, then on the top left there should be a button marked up for pre-conditioning. Does your vehicle have this button?

I have the Volvo app ( very limited to its functionality) and a sim fitted in the car although again how do I know this is working?

Ultimately I want to be able to activate climate remotely from my phone for cold morning starts.

The Sim will show on the Sensus Screen with a second signal strength icon beside a sim icon

This image shows the phone signal strength. When you have a sim card installed you will get a second signal strength icon
