Fuel pump
Hi, I am in the process or refurb'ing my AC fuel pump. I have the repair kit. My question is how do i remove the diaphragm? There is a central spindle in the new diaphragm with slots at the base which hook into something. Do I need to remove the pump lever and if so how to set about it. Don't want to break any thing.

Last one of these I did I took it all apart. It might not have needed that. The awkward part is getting the diaphragm shaft unhooked from the lever (11) and putting it back again. Hold lever and turn the diaphragm 90º and should un hook. Fit new the same orientation that the old one came out with regards to the slots at the end of the shaft and again, turn through 90º. Be prepared for a frustrating time doing this as it either clicks into place easily or will require multiple attempts. After half an hour of try, best to go and make a cuppa. The shaft goes down through a seal (14) which doesn't give much wriggle room. Try not to damage this with the slotted part of the shaft as you're making your moves. Because you can't see what's going on in there I marked the diaphragm to show the orientation of the slots. Slots in the shaft are hidden in the diagram by the spring. That way you know it's in line when you twist it 90º. Good luck it might go in first time, if so you're very skilled or very lucky!

Went in first attempt, no drama. Only problem now is unscrewing the two screws in the top half so that I can renew the two small valves. been soaking in penetrating oil for almost two days now and still wont budge.

try a little heat with a soldering gun on the screw. also try and tighten it a little , this sometimes breaks the bond.

Interesting. You have to remove the screws to remove the top to get at the diaphragm. How did you replace the diaphragm without doing this. The screws go through the edge of it......................

It's the two screws, 20 I think on your schematic, that hold down the retainer for the two little valves. The ones inside the pump.
