Default lamp bulbs

Y'all must be getting fed up with me by now but I have another query. I am changing over the head lights on the PV from the old style bulb on the left of pic' to the new style next to it. I have this adapter which takes the three blades. I need to know which blade is earth, which is high beam and which is low beam. I assume that they are all the same.

Google is your friend. You can check the common/earth with a meter from pin to body. Yes this is an H4 Halogen, and you can get them in 6 volt if you look around.

Obrigadinho, that's Portuguese for "more than thank you" The thing about Google is that you need to be able to ask the right question.

If you have a multimeter set it to ohms. Measure the resistance from each terminal to the other. You will find that from one terminal to each of the other two the resistance is the same. That terminal is the earth.

This can be tricky especially with low voltage bulbs: a dirty connection at the multimeter probe can affect the reading at such low resitance values.

There is another way. Look carefully into the capsule and one prong will have two filaments welded to it. That is the earth. The filament under the reflector hood is the dipped.
