Default What to do now?

Hi All,

After a couple of years getting my Amazon restored I now have to do something with the engine as she is blowing a lot of oil out through the breather and most likely rings are causing it. I have managed to get a spare b18 engine which would allow work to be done before a transplant. My questions would be - my own engine is stamped lbg 319330 and the spare has gag 418201 stamped along with the numbers stamped into the head, does this mean anything? I would like to take the opportunity to increase the power modestly and would like some advice on best course of action. The head will have to come off the spare engine to check everything is ok but should I get it machines a little and fit the harder seats for unleaded. Also currently have the 175 single carb , should I consider twin/ Weber/ something else? while I'm at it. Also was thinking a four branch with 2 inch exhaust. It is all being mated to an automatic and happy to stay that way. Any suggestions on cost effectiveness would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi, I also have an automatic 121 and switched to twin SU carbs some time ago. This, along with a sports manifold and exhaust improved power and hasn't effected fuel consumption too much. The exhaust did need to be adapted to clear the auto box.

At the moment my head is away having hardened valve seats fitted. I'm also having a c cam fitted as the old cam was worn.

I also like the Automatic (would love a manual model too!)

Simplicity is carbs and exhaust. It is so easy to get carried away......!!!
If the engine is apart then you could check bottom end and cam and maybe change to a D cam or other matching cam for carbs, depending how far you want to go, but then all sorts of other considerations come in. Keep it simples!!
