On the other side, such failure makes me be a little doubtful about the actual miles on the car. This is another subject, but is the paperwork confirming the mileage? At the very least, the main dealer can read the actual miles stored in the ECU (which may be different than what the odometer is displaying)

Thanks for all the replies. Thanks for the video and advice. I do not have the time or tools to do this myself and can get the part at trade. I have sourced a garage that will do it on Weds this week and it will only do a 20 miles before then so fingers crossed. The mileage is spot on as I have owned it from 12 months old when it came with warranted mileage/main dealer history. Hopefully Weds evening peace and quiet will be restored.

All sorted, it was the alternator pulley. Now making the usual noise, hopefully run for a few years more. At least all the pulleys have been replaced, fingers crossed.
Thanks for advice.

Hopefully the mechanic installed a INA pulley, otherwise I'd keep an eye on it
