Default pedal going to floor

hi all, ive got a 2010 v50 1.6d DRIVe and the brake pedal goes to the floor, if it is pumped it goes ok and brakes work but if you wait 10 seconds the pedal will go to the floor again with very little braking. if the engine is not running brake pedal will stay hard after a few pumps but as soon as the engine is started the brakes fail. is this most likely to be the master cylinder the vacuum pump or something else. i cant find anyone selling brand new genuine master cylinders and the pattern ones are not cheap so don't want to change it if it's ok. is there a way of testing the vacuum pump? have done a search of the forum and am leaning towards a vac problem but would appreciate any help.

ok checked all vacuum pipes and ok, vacuum pump seems ok also so bought a master cylinder from scrap yard and tried to fit that but not getting any fluid out from calipers. do the master cylinders need to be primed? if so how is it done, i put brake fluid in reservoir and let it come out of where the brake pipes screw in, attached a vacuum bleeder to rear right brake caliper but when bleed nipple is opened no fluid comes out. now i have no brakes! help.

I haven't done anything as involved as changing the master cylinder so I wouldn't know.

I've bled the brakes twice and the clutch once - used a one man (eesibleed) kit with no issues both times.

fixed!! problem with hard brakes was rubber gasket on new master cylinder missing, replaced with one from old unit and ok. bled system through with new fluid and using a pressurized bleeder instead of my vacuum one and everything is now ok. never got an answer from volvo dealer in Warrington about new master cylinder and all the new ones online are different to the original, does anybody know where i can get an original new one as i'd prefer a new one to the used one i fitted specially now iv'e proved the master was to blame.
