"Early late" upper steering columns (offset upper connection to offset lower shaft with usual dash-mounted ignition switch) and "late late" upper columns (with same offset but column-mounted switch) will not mate easily with earlier non-offset upper-lower flange connection.
It appears to me that the later upper shaft has been cut and married to the lower end of an early upper shaft...If so, possibly problematic unless very well done. Electrically speaking, your car works wired as shown, with the undisturbed original coil because "they" left the unused tumbler barrel turned to the "run" position. Therefore any wire connected to the ignition switch 12+ is directly connected to + coil, essentiallly bypassing the old ignition switch and providing the coil feed for the column switch. No magic there...

Hi, the car is fitted with Volvo kit 281453 steering wheel lock.
This was a original accessory that were fitted on many Volvo,s in Sweden. The upper steering axle is fitted with a hardened "collar" so it works with the steering locking mechanism. I have the same kit on my 1966. The reason your horn dont work, is most likely because they damaged the wire inside the axle, when they fitted the kit = two large "rivets" is fitted throu the upper axle. |
