That's a kind offer, thanks. You've put me off a bit though thinking about the noise and paint damage..I quite like the idea of building my own so might try that...I want to try to make use of the funky cnc machines and 3d printers that they have at the local uni..may well be a good project to start on.

Thanks very much!
I have lowered it about 3mm with some springs I bought on eBay a few years ago. I can't remember the make, but they're progressively wound. Even so, it has made the ride quality much firmer. Probably not to everyone's taste, but I don't find it uncomfortable. I always thought that it lowered the rear more significantly than the front. Standard anti-roll bar, but the stiffer springs make the car much more stable. The shock absorbers are Monroe gas-o-matic (can't remember if that's the right name). I changed most of the rubber bushing with standard but good quality rubber Wheels are certainly appearance rather than performance! I like deep rims. They weigh a ton each! The tyres are commercial vehicle tyres, but they grip extremely well.

*Btw, at this time, weren't they also an independent importers / concessionaires, rather than run by Volvo themselves?

Well it's on the same page of mysteries with those who lower their Amazon, those who fit it with huge alloy wheels and those who try tune a worn out engine.

Text under the Halda Speed Pilot is just as funny - it says:
"A Halva Speed Pilot.." In Swedish, "halva" means "the half of".. ..."the half of a speed pilot.."

Must admit lowering did cross my mind but not as low as some I've seen lol...huge alloy wheels are a bit Southend seafront so nope!..sensible engine upgrades are ok-....roof racks umm well ok if your going on a camping holiday with the Mrs, three kids the dog and taking the kitchen sink as people used to do back then(I remember the times)..but nowadays folks don't do that.
