I stick my surfboard on top of mine and I wanted something that looked period and suited the car
Lowering? Well I like the look and the drive. Huge wheels? I like the look - sometimes..

That cronky old estate I once owned was sold new from a Renault garage in Cornwall. The guy I know whose father set up the business in Newton Abbott supplied the old car to the Renault garage and all those years later was able to show me the original invoice that his dad diligent book keeper filed!

Why a roof rack? Well, I have a shiny one on my Estate, which I bragged about earlier on this forum. The look is a good enough reason for me.
It's often hard not to be cynical about what (other) people spend on their vehicles though, isn't it. I work on drilling rigs up in Canada, where big trucks are standard fare, a lot of them hopelessly dressed-up. Two down from mine right now is one for which the owner paid $85,000. I often joke with my non-rig friends that I'd like to own a store which sells all those accessories. In the interest of honesty, I'd call it "More Money Than Brains". Edit: See that dent on the roof above the passenger door (B pillar?). That's from a tree branch which fell on her - it would have been worse had the rack not been there!

Least they look more at home on an estate I guess..just don't see why people have the need to get every conceivable factory option screwed to their car.
I get things for what I need to serve a purpose. I must admit tho' that if and when I do I try to source period stuff like the original type seat belts I bought from a forum member(big thanks!). Will be looking for a towing hook in the new year but won't be biting my nails over if it should be black or body colour before I fit it. No cynisism meant |

If you want one for a tenner, a good start is a roof rack from a newer estate, which is what mine was. The trick is the bottom cross-pieces, which have to be bent to go over the lip on the roof. If you have access to a "brake" (?), that would be easy-enough. I actually got the bottom piece from an original rack which was otherwise rusted/pitted beyond repair, but easy-enough to do the bending. The next step is to remove the cross-pieces and shorten them to fit the smaller amazon. All that was not too difficult really (cut, drill and a little grinding). I attach some pics (including the critical bendy bit) from my earlier bragging-session. Oh, I just realized you would have to shorten said cross-pieces too, and re-create the square hole therein (twice only).
