I'm curious, has anyone given a VW rack a shot on one of these? I have seen more than a couple VWs with the removable 220/145/245 racks on their cars (don't they have more than enough companies making them that they could get their own?!?!?). I'd love to get a period rack but finding one that doesn't requiring drilling the roof here in the States is way difficult.

My neighbour had one on his. He had the smallest version available from VW Heritage and fitted it right at the back of the car It was alright, but small. His car is the light yellow estate that is is the photo of our man 123GT - Amazon's post there

I've found in the barn a 60's roof rack that my dad had on top of his Escort. It's a fully adjustable type that was popular as a fit anything rack. They're on eBay, but no longer cheap. I'm going to get the frame fine plastic bead blasted to give the surface a mat finish and put some wood slats on it

I know what you mean about not wanting to drill holes in the roof, but the look is way "better".

yours does look nice but I don't want holes in the roof. It's far too rainy here for that
