We were thinking the same thing.
We rescued one a while ago from Orkney : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2814800496...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT and sold it to a friend, it's for sale again at the moment on ebay for £1100 and would probably make someone a half decent car with a bit of work and then there's one: http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C553524 Think of a sensible price and double it!!

Back in the 1980's you couldn't even give these estates away.

Yes Volvo estates have always been in demand over here. You would even scrap a saloon car to fix an estate.

volvogv, that might have been true in CA, or perhaps even the West Coast, but here in the northeast, Amazon wagons have always been appreciated and sought after by some of us...
Of the dozens of Amazons I have owned and enjoyed, the very first (in 1970) was a '64 wagon, And an especially nice one burned up in a barn fire in ~2000, along with 3 wonderful sedans and a pristine 240 Turbo. And there were others. Matter of fact, there's a true diamond-in-the-rough '66, southern car, been sitting in a Vermont shed near here for ~8 years, that's begging for someone to take her home, do her justice and restore her dignity.

I lived in Portland Oregon for many years where Volvos were as thick as bugs on a bumper. I saw a lot of Amazons, estates, and 142's go to the scrap yard that were in solid condition just because they were 20 years old. These days out west, Amazons are rare, Estates even more so, and 142's are pretty much gone.
As Volvo once said in their ads, "You Americans are sure rotten to your automobiles." NorthNH: Sorry to hear about the barn fire and lost Volvos. |
